Alphabetize Lists in Word
If you have a list of anything in Word — a shopping list, address book, catalog numbers, important dates, you name it, if you need to alphabetize them or place them in numerical order, you might be in the habit of cutting and pasting the items into the appropriate sequence. There’s nothing wrong with that approach, except if you have a long list, it can be an extremely tedious process. Instead, why not let Word alphabetize your list for you? It’s very simple: First, highlight the text or list to be alphabetized.
For Word 2007 users, click the Sort button found in the Paragraph section on the Home ribbon.
If you’re using an older version of Word, go to the Menu bar and click Table > Sort.
When the Sort Text window opens, it should be configured to sort in ascending order by default, but if you need to make any changes to that setting, you can easily make them.
Lastly, click OK and your list will be instantly sorted. It’s as easy as A-B-C — or 1, 2, 3, as the case may be.
